In 2012, there were approximately 49,000 bicyclist injuries in the United States, based on NHTSA Traffic Safety data. That represents an 8.9% increase over numbers from a decade earlier. Most of this is accounted for in the sheer increase in volume of people on the road, whether it be drivers, bicyclists, or pedestrians.
At Howard Blau Law, we want to remind you always to remain vigilant when riding your bicycle. Wear protective gear (a helmet at the very least), keep your bike in good order, obey the rules of the road, and remember that you have a lot more to lose in any situation involving a car, truck, or bus. Unfortunately, you can’t always avoid an accident, though thankfully, the vast majority of the 49,000 injuries mentioned above were not serious or life-threatening. There are several types of bicycle accidents that can happen which are not the bicyclist’s fault, including:
- Accidents that only affect the rider due to a third party’s negligence
- Accidents involving a bicycle and a pedestrian
- Bicycle / bicycle collisions
- Bicycle / motor vehicle collisions
- Bicycle / commercial vehicle collisions
If you or someone you know has been involved in any type of accident on a bicycle in the Southern California area, please give Howard Blau Law a call. We can determine quickly if legal action is required, and how to best help you pursue a case against the liable party. We’re confident that we can provide expert representation that can lead you to the highest level of compensation possible. You deserve a team who will treat you fairly and fight your case regardless of the severity of your accident or injury.
